Jack London Square
  
  
Jack London Square in Oakland California is one of the greatest places for watching trains go by.  I enjoyed spending a few days here in March 2003, where I saw plenty of freight and Amtrak traffic.
  
If you're a railfan, you'll probably enjoy staying at Jack London Inn, where you can comfortably watch many of the trains go down Embarcadero West.
